World Premeire: Angels (Two Brief Poems for Organ)
The World Premiere of Dan’s Angels (Two Brief Poems for Organ) was presented on Monday, July 1 @ 8:00 PM by organist Alan Morrison as part of his concert at St. Rose of Lima Church, 300 E. Kings Highway in Haddon Heights, NJ. This event was part of the 2019 American Guild of Organists (AGO) Mid-Atlantic Regional Convention in nearby Cherry Hill, NJ – https://www.agosouthjersey2019.org/.
The piece consists of two movements, Angels of Tranquility and Angels of Joy. Published by Subito Music, it was commissioned by the Mid-Atlantic 2019 Regional Convention of the American Guild of Organists, SouthWest and SouthEast Jersey Chapters, New Jersey for Mr. Morrison.
Alan Morrison is recognized as one of America’s premier concert organists and enjoys a versatile career as organist, teacher, recording artist, adjudicator and pianist/chamber musician. His concert performances throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Russia have all been received with enthusiastic praise for his quality programming, colorful use of the organ and interpretive integrity. Premiere: Sonata for Flute and Harp – June 19, 2019
Dan Locklair’s Sonata for Flute and Harp will be premiered on Wednesday, June 19 @ 7:30 PM by flutist Debra Reuter-Pivetta and harpist Jacquelyn Bartlett as part of History in Harmony, a concert at Crawford Concert Hall at the University of North Carolina’s School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, as part of the American Harp Society Summer Institute 2019.
Sonata for Flute & Harp was the result of a 2018 commission by the North Carolina Harp Ensemble for Jacquelyn Bartlett and Debra Reuter-Pivetta in celebration of the 2019 American Harp Society, Inc. Summer Institute. Composed during the summer of 2018, Sonata for Flute & Harp is in three movements and is approximately twelve minutes in length, the composer writes, “It is warmly dedicated to Ms. Bartlett and Ms. Reuter-Pivetta.” More about the piece, which is published by Subito Music, at http://www.subitomusic.com/locklair-sonata-for-flute-harp-premieres/.

Requiem and Gloria Performed in Roanoke, VA
Two of Dan’s major choral works, Requiem and Gloria will be performed on Friday, November 2 @ 6 PM by the St. John’s Episcopal Church choir and guests as this year’s All Saints Memorial Concert at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke, VA (seen below). Independence Day from Symphony No. 2, “America”, in Concert
On October 14, 2018, the Society of Musical Arts Orchestra (SOMA), Stephen Culbertson, Conductor and Musical Director, performed Dan’s “Independence Day,” the first movement of his Symphony No. 2, “America,” at Maurice Levin Theater in West Orange, NJ. The complete Symphony, published by Subito Music, features three movements that individually reflect a quintessential American holiday. “Independence Day” is based on America the Beautiful. The work premiered in October 2016, when John Gordon Ross conducted NC’s Western Piedmont Symphony.

Dan’s Gloria Performed Twice in Scotland
Dan’s Gloria, for SATB choir, divisi, brass octet and percussion was performed by The Garleton Singers on March 17 at St. Cuthbert’s Church in Edinburgh and March 18 at St. Mary’s Parish Church in Haddington, Scotland as part of the ensemble’s Sound the Trumpet concerts. The World Premiere of Dan’s Noel’s Psalm (A Sonata for Organ) was performed by Dr. Robert Parkins on March 25 at Duke University Chapel in Durham, NC. Dr. Parkins presented the piece along with Dan’s organ transcription of In Memory – H.H.L. for string orchestra.
World Premiere: Symphony No. 2 “America” – October 7
The World Premiere of Dan’s Symphony No. 2 “America” will be presented by Maestro John Gordon Ross and the Western Piedmont Symphony on Saturday, October 7 @ 7:30 at Lenoir-Rhyne University, 625 7th Ave NE, in Hickory, North Carolina.
Dan writes, “My Symphony No. 2 “America” unabashedly celebrates America: “The Land of the Free”. Begun in May of 2015, this three-movement composition was completed in July of 2016 and is scored for a large triple-wind symphony orchestra. Approximately 22 minutes in length, each movement is a reflection upon a holiday that is at the heart of America: 1. Independence Day; 2. Memorial Day; 3. Thanksgiving Day. A single, well-known melody associated with the essence of each of these American holidays is heard in each movement.”

Music by Dan Locklair – Cantari Voices Performs Two Major Works on March 4 in Chapel Hill, NC
Cantari Voices Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Sue Klausmeyer, is pleased announce their upcoming concert, Music by Dan Locklair, which will be held on Saturday, March 4 at Chapel of the Cross, 304 E. Franklin St., Chapel Hill, NC.
The concert features two of Dan’s choral masterworks – A DuBose Heyward Triptych portraying the city of Charleston, SC, with its coastal beauty and Civil War history, and Requiem, a lovely, serene setting accompanied by organist Matthew Brown.
