Pipedreams – Unlocking Locklair
The organ music of Dan Locklair will be the focus of American Public Media’s Pipedreams radio program for the week of September 30.
The two-hour Unlocking Locklair program is hosted by Michael Barone and will present 7 of the composer’s major works, including the first national broadcast of his Concerto for Organ and Orchestra (2010) in a performance by the Eastern Festival Orchestra, Gerard Schwarz, conductor, with soloist Susan Bates.
Other works on the program are the broadcast premieres of O Festive Day and Trumpets of Light, along with Sonata da Chiesa, Anthem: The Lone Wild Bird, Ayre for the Dance, In Mystery and Wonder and Phoenix Processional.
The program will be broadcast nationally on APM-affiliated stations beginning September 30. Check your local listings for broadcast times in your area.
The show will also be available for listening at the Pipedreams website after September 30.

“Hail the Coming Day” is a festive piece for orchestra composed by Winston-Salem’s own Dan Locklair and commissioned by the city and the Winston-Salem Centennial Commission for the Centennial celebration!

New Dan Locklair Orchestral Commission Broadcast on WDAV Radio
WDAV Classical Public Radio presented the World Broadcast Premiere of Dan Locklair’s Hail the Coming Day (A Festive Piece for Orchestra) on Wednesday, June 12. Visit the station at http://www.wdav.org/.
Hail the Coming Day was also be heard on WDAV on June 13 at 7:00 PM and June 16 at 3:00 PM, as part of broadcasts of the recording of the Winston-Salem Symphony, Robert Moody, Music Director’s season finale concert.
The piece was commissioned by the City of Winston-Salem to celebrate their Centennial and was Premiered by the Winston-Salem Symphony on May 12 and 14 at the Stevens Center of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
