Gentle Alleluias (A Sacred Song for High Voice and Organ) was composed in 1989 and revised the following year. It is dedicated to soprano Deborah Rice and her husband, David. Though the piece is intended for a solo singer, it may also effectively be performed by multiple soprano voices in unison. The word “Alleluia” is the piece’s sole text. A sustained organ accompaniment serenely underpins the composition from beginning to end.
