<p>Dan Locklair’s <em>Instant Culture</em>, a choral drama for SATB, soloists and piano, will be given two New Mexico performances by the Sangre de Cristo Chorale, Dr. Maxine Thevenot, Director, on Saturday, May 11, 5:00 PM at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road in Los Alamos and Sunday, May 12, 3:00 PM at 1st Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe, 208 Grant Avenue in Santa Fe.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>New Dan Locklair Orchestral Commission to be Premiered by Winston-Salem Symphony on May 12 and 14 as Part of Winston-Salem, North Carolina’s Centennial Celebration</strong></p>
<p>The World Premiere performances of Dan Locklair’s <em>Hail the Coming Day</em> (A Festive Piece for Orchestra), commissioned by the City of Winston-Salem to celebrate their Centennial, will be presented by the Winston-Salem Symphony, Robert Moody, Music Director, on Sunday, May 12 at 3:00 PM as part of their concert at the Stevens Center of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, and on Tuesday, May 14 at 7:30 PM, again at the Stevens Center.</p>
<p>Dr. Locklair has written about <em>Hail the Coming Day</em>, “Completed in January 2013, this approximately five-minute composition is in one movement and consists of five short sections. Scored for a large orchestra of triple woodwinds, triple brass, strings and percussion, the composition takes its title from an 1876 speech given by one of early Winston’s most influential leaders, Robert Gray.&#8221; Download the complete program notes at <a href="http://www.w-s100years.com/events.cfm/5-12-2013/16/">http://www.w-s100years.com/events.cfm/5-12-2013/16/</a>.</p>

Both performances of Modernism and Sensuality are part of the Music and Museum First Tuesdays concert series and the 5:30 concert is presented as part of the 2013 Ulysses Festival: Charlotte’s Spring Festival of the Arts.</p>

<p>Dan Locklair’s <em>Phoenix Processional</em> for organ and two movements from his Windows of Comfort will be performed by world-renowned organist Marilyn Keiser on Friday, April 5 – 7:30 PM at Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue in New York, N.Y. This will be part of the American Guild of Organists sponsored recital and gala benefit reception honoring Dr. Keiser.<br />
<em><br />
Phoenix Processional</em> for solo organ comes from a larger composition entitled Phoenix Fanfare and Processional for organ, brass quartet and percussion. The original three minute <em>Phoenix Fanfare</em> was commissioned in 1979 by Union Theological Seminary in New York City for the  February 1980 reopening and dedication of Union’s renovated James Memorial Chapel.<br />
<em><br />
Windows of Comfort</em> (Organbooks I and II) is a 1996 work for solo organ. The complete work has been recorded by Marie Rubis Bauer for Recital Recordings and selections have been recorded by Douglas Cleveland for the Gothic label.</p>

<p>Dan Locklair’s Since Dawn will be performed by the Ohio State University Chorus and Symphonic Choir, conducted by Matthew Russell, on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:00 PM as part of Mr. Russell’s DMA program at Hughes Hall Auditorium on the campus of Ohio State University, 199 College Road in Columbus. Piano accompanist will be Matthew Ebright.</p>
<p>Matthew Russell is doing his doctoral dissertation at Ohio on selected choral works of Dan Locklair. Performers will also include narrator Micah Morgan, soprano Devra Laserson and tenor Ryan Jenkins.</p>
<p><em>Since Dawn</em> (a tone poem originally created for narrator, chorus and orchestra, based on Maya Angelou&#8217;s <em>On the Pulse of Morning</em>) was begun in November of 1994 and completed in June 1995 and was written for the 1996-1997 Wake Forest University Year of the Arts.</p>

<p>Dan Locklair’s <em>Hues for Orchestra</em> will be performed by the Davidson College Symphony Orchestra, Tara Towson Villa, Director, on Thursday, February 21 at 7:30 PM as part of their concert at Duke Family Performance Hall on the campus of Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina.</p>
<p>The composer writes. “My three-movement set of brief tone poems, Hues for orchestra, was composed between the summers of 1992 and 1993 on a North Carolina Composer Fellowship Award (competitively granted through the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency). Each movement of the approximately twelve-minute composition is a reflection upon the words that entitle them.” The movements are I. Cloudburst, II. Moonshine and III. Sunburst.</p>
<p>Beethoven’s <em>Symphony No. 6</em> “Pastorale” will also be on the program.</p>
