When in Our Music God is Glorified (Anthem for SA/TB Chorus, Organ and Finger Cymbals, ad lib) was a 1989 commission from Ms. Linda Baumgarten and St. Stephen Lutheran Church of Williamsburg, VA (Robert K. Seal, Organist and Choir Director) for its new organ dedication service. This energetic anthem sets one of Fred Pratt Green’s best known texts and was originally published by Music 70 in 1994 under Mr. Green’s original poem title, Let the People Sing! With an active and sprightly organ part, the primarily SAB choral parts are not difficult, with most of the writing being unison and/or two part mixed (SA/TB). Added interest is created, if desired, by the use of finger cymbals (played by the singers), as well as the creation of a spatial dimension, which may be achieved by having the brief middle section treble solo line sung by a soprano or a children’s choir placed in a different location from the larger choral ensemble.
When in Our Music God is Glorified is now published by Subito.
