All My Heart This Night Rejoices
For SATB Chorus and Organ
by
Dan Locklair
All My Heart This Night Rejoices, an arrangement for SATB Chorus and Organ, was composed in 1972 in New York City for the 60th anniversary of Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. The words, by the 17th century writer, Paul Gerhardt, use the traditional English translation by Catherine Winkworth. The well-known Johann Ebeling melody long-associated with this Christmas text is set in a spritely, playful and rhythmical fashion that tosses phrases of the tuneful, F major lines back and forth between the sections of the choir. My first published choral work, All My Heart This Night Rejoices was originally published by J. Fischer, then assigned to Music 70 and now is published by Subito.
