Further, the 11th century plainsong melody, Divinum mysterium, is at the heart and soul of the serene middle movement. Even as the opening movement begins and ends with music of grandeur, the Concerto concludes with the highly rhythmic and driving third movement, the Toccata. I am very excited about this new concerto commission for the 2011 Region IV AGO Convention in Greensboro, North Carolina!”

Music of Dan Locklair to Be Premiered by Saint Thomas Choir in Manhattan on October 4
The World Premiere of American composer Dan Locklair’s new anthem for SATB chorus, a cappella, In the Sight of God, will be performed by the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys, John Scott, Conductor, at their services on Sunday, October 4 at 11 AM at Saint Thomas Church, 1 West 57th Street in Manhattan.
In the Sight of God is dedicated to the St. Thomas Choir and its Director, John Scott. Dan Locklair’s Brief Mass and motet, Pater Noster, will also be heard during this service. The choir has previously recorded Brief Mass and Pater Noster as part of their American Music from Saint Thomas CD for Koch International Classics.
For more information about the October 4 service, please contact Saint Thomas Church at 212-757-7013 or visit them at http://www.saintthomaschurch.org.
The Saint Thomas Choir, conducted by Music Director John Scott, is considered by critics to be the leading ensemble in the Anglican choral tradition in the United States, and among the finest in the world. In the Gothic setting of Saint Thomas Church, the choir performs regularly with period instrument ensemble, Concert Royal, or with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s as part of its own Concert Series, yet its primary raison d’être is to provide music for five choral services each week. Choral Evensong is sung Tuesday through Thursday at 5:30 pm, with Sunday services at 11:00 am and 4:00 pm, a schedule which requires the preparation of approximately four hundred sacred choral works each year.
